The inspiration for this painting came during an invitation to a recently revealed Mayan excavation site in the Yucatan jungle. A beautiful and rare butterfly followed Carol near her shoulder as we learned and explored. One of the excavators shared a story about a sacred cenote, Nicté-Há, known as Lotus Flower.  Then, as we were departing, a kaleidoscope of butterflies greeted us. It was a magical and inspirational moment connecting current and past lives and became the idea for a new painting. 

The butterfly and the lotus flower, both symbols of life's renewal, captivate us with their transformative journeys. Once a humble caterpillar, the butterfly undergoes a metamorphosis, emerging as a universally admired creature of elegance and radiance. Similarly, the lotus flower, a beacon of purity and renewal, submerges itself in murky waters each night, only to bloom anew with the dawn, a testament to the miracles of nature. 

We want this piece to remind us to strive to be the best we can, to look in the mirror, and to better ourselves for our community and Mother Earth!
